Keeping on

I am, as a matter of fact, still alive. Despite any fears to the contrary stemming from my unfortunate absence from this blog, I am very much still alive, working, going to class, et cetera.

Unfortunately, I’m busy. I enjoyed having the last several days off (after working last weekend and having nearly a week off work before that), but I checked my schedule last night, since the schedule for next week and the week after that was due this week, and it seems I’m scheduled to work 37 hours next week (Sunday [Valentine’s Day] through Wednesday night plus 5 hours Friday night).

Of late (certainly in the latter part of last semester and to some extent this semester) I’ve felt like I don’t have much free time, between working 30-odd hours a week, taking 12 credit hours of college classes, and spending most of my time off with my girlfriend of nearly 5 months.

On the bright side, I (somehow barely) did make the Dean’s List last semester (A in Business Law, A- in Intro to Microeconomics, B in German 1 and B+ in Accounting, I think), and would like to repeat that particular performance this semester with Elementary German 2, Writing 1, Introduction to Managerial Accounting, and American History to 1877 (or whatever the full names of my classes actually are).

I have a few ideas for future Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis 4-related projects, mostly related to the After the End and Super States mods, respectively, which I know I’ve mentioned here before. I mean, who wouldn’t want to read about neo-feudalism in the Ozarks and inter-US state naval conflict?

I did have a project I was working on for an After the End game as the Count of Springfield [Missouri], but that game kept crashing on March 6, 2731. In light of the new expansion that came out last week (Conclave, which I’ve barely played), and the fact that I had not actually written very much, I decided to reboot this Springfield game and write a summary of what I had played between August and late December of last year (before the game decided to stop working) before beginning again with the new expansion.

I re-discovered the Super States mod for EU4 while my Internet connection wasn’t working very well last week and before I was finally able to upgrade my desktop computer from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04. I hadn’t played EU4 since October 5 of last year (RIP, most recent attempt at a Super States California “after-action report”), and I hadn’t bothered upgrading to a more recent version because I hadn’t bought any of the expansions. Well, that, and I seem to remember discovering at some point that EU4 wouldn’t load at all when I tried version 1.12. Or maybe I just liked staying at EU4 version 1.11. In any event, my Paradox Interactive games seem to work fine with 14.04, so I’m going to try playing them again and writing more often.

Valentine’s Day is this coming weekend, which is mainly notable because, as we’ve discussed, neither my girlfriend nor I have ever had a significant other to spend it with before. I should probably be working on making plans, but Sunday oddly seems far away. I need to be getting ready for work, so I guess I’ll write here (and study for tomorrow’s accounting and history tests) later.
